Dyche must part company with the forgotten Everton flop, who earns more than twice as much as McNeil.
Everton has done good business in recent years, investing in young players to enhance their team while also making a nice profit. The club has shifted away from signing high-profile players that flourished elsewhere before arriving at Goodison Park, failing to make an impression, and pocketing a modest fortune from the club.
Additions of players such as Jarrad Branthwaite and James Garner are good instances of their excellent transactions, with the duo joining the club for a combined £10 million before benefiting from consistent game time, which has seen their prices climb to a total of £44.7 million, according to Transfermarkt.
Arnaut Danjuma, who joined Everton with high expectations to improve the attacking department, has struggled to make an impact in his limited game time under manager Sean Dyche.

After several failed attempts to persuade the winger to join the Toffees, Everton ultimately recruited Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal last summer, with a deal lasting until the end of the 2023/24 season. At the time, it appeared that Dyche and his team made sound financial decisions in bringing the Dutchman to Goodison Park; but, the transfer has proven disastrous for all parties involved.
The 27-year-old has only made 14 appearances for the Toffees since the beginning of the season, starting only 14% of the club’s Premier League games in a season in which the team survived with three games to spare despite having eight points docked due to several PSR violations. Danjuma has only scored once for the Toffees in the Premier League, in a 2-2 draw away at Sheffield United earlier this season.
His lack of playing time has been emphasized in recent weeks, with his most recent appearance for the club coming against Fulham in January, capping off a poor season for the forward. Danjuma has clearly fallen out of favour under Dyche, with the attacker failing to appear at all, despite the club’s recent injury problems at the top of the pitch, with youngster Youssef Chermiti preferred to the Dutchman following Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto injuries.
Both parties will be anxious for the drought to end, with the Toffees also having to wipe his large salary from the pay sheet ahead of the summer. Arnaut Danjuma’s salary at Everton Although he is only on loan at Everton for the present season, Danjuma is still making £52.5k per week, according to Capology – a big amount given his lack of effect at Goodison, where he has become something of a forgotten figure.
The “rubbish” loanee, as Daily Mail journalist Ian Ladyman nicknamed him, will have earned a total of £2.7 million in salary alone this season, which would have translated to £450,000 per start. His earnings at Everton are currently more than twice those of fellow attacker Dwight McNeil, who earns an estimated £25k per week, despite the 27-year-old missing the majority of the 2023/24 season.
It’s unfortunate that the attacker’s move hasn’t worked out this season, but the Toffees will be relieved that he’s only here temporarily, allowing Dyche to spend the money elsewhere during the forthcoming transfer window. The summer might be a busy one for Everton, with sales required to prevent more punishment while also allowing them to showcase their superb recruiting from past windows.
