Danny Murphy recently mentioned something about Sean Dyche that he believes most Everton fans will agree with.
Earlier in the season, Everton appeared poised to finally enjoy a season free of relegation fears. After all, following a turbulent first two months, a road victory over Brentford launched a magical run in which they rocketed to safety.
Even after losing 10 points in November, they were able to climb out of the relegation zone again. Sean Dyche had worked miracles, but a current winless streak dating back to December is still fresh in fans’ minds. Danny Murphy has attempted to deliver his verdict on the boss, which he believes Evertonians will agree with.
Danny Murphy delivers his assessment on Sean Dyche. During an interview with Martin O’Neill and Sam Matterface on talkSPORT earlier today (03/04, 10:10 a.m.), the former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was candid about Dyche. After taking command in impossibly difficult conditions in late January 2023, his efforts to stabilise this sinking ship have been admirable. And, while this torrid run of play, the worst in the club’s Premier League history, has sparked criticism, there is clearly no one better suited to shepherd the Toffees to safety at this stage of the season.

Murphy expressed that the majority of Everton fans he knows still support Dyche, despite the club’s recent struggles. ‘They know he’s been working with one hand behind his back. The truth is that Dyche has spent a lot of time with Burnley in similar situations, on the outskirts of the relegation zone. I do not think you would want anyone else.
‘He is superb at keeping them… He never gets too excited when they win and never gets too down when they lose. He is very constant in his attitude and how he talks about the team and the players. I believe they will be okay.
Sean Dyche is far from secure at Everton. Although there appears to be no owner willing to fire the manager, Dyche is far from safe when it comes to facing harsh scrutiny from Everton fans. After all, while Murphy’s assessment is essentially accurate, the tide has shifted slightly in recent months as a result of such a terrible run. Many people believe he is rigid in his team selection and substitutions, too slow to respond, and frequently lacking in adventure when teams appear to be there for the taking.
However, he has always been a somewhat conservative manager, and this seemed unlikely to change. Understandably, his squad’s lack of quality has handicapped him, but as is often the case, the manager bears the ultimate responsibility. He is far from untouchable, and if he fails to bring them out of the mud, things might become messy soon for the 52-year-old
