BREAKING NEWS: Rams’ Offseason Needs and Chances of Holding First-Round Draft Pick Are Discussed by Sean McVay.
One of the NFL’s biggest surprises of the previous season was the Los Angeles Rams. Sean McVay guided the Rams to a 10-7 record and a postseason berth, when they were nearly defeated by the Detroit Lions in the Wildcard round, despite parting ways with several high-profile players and most predicting them to be among the weakest teams in the league.
The team now has the opportunity and resources to build on that success during the offseason. In addition to the obvious role that trades and free agency will play, the Rams will have a first-round pick for the first time since 2016.
It’s uncertain if they hold onto that choice, and McVay said they are currently determining the best course of action.
When asked if the Rams would have their first-round pick this year, the coach responded, “Oh, that’s a big if.” That’s precisely what we’re going through at the moment, I would think. determining the most effective approach to use those many channels in order to build a team that is as competitive as possible and work toward improvement.
“I believe that a lot of good things happened last year, and you do approach it by asking, ‘Well, how do we go about doing that wisely?'” Les and his team do a fantastic job of staying ahead of the curve when it comes to the draft’s landscape, but how can we make sure that we’re identifying the kinds of players, whether that be through free agency, trades, or another method?
Last year, the Rams did a fantastic job of adding the appropriate guys, especially through the draft. With nine and eight sacks, respectively, third-round choices Kobie Turner and Byron Young led the club in sacks, and Turner was named a finalist for Defensive Rookie of the Year. Puka Nacua, who set NFL records for receptions and receiving yards by a rookie, was selected by the team in the fifth round.

Finding the right players to keep improving this club is the Rams’ current task, and it can get underway now that McVay has his coaching staff in place.
According to McVay, “We’re always a little bit behind coaching wise because you get in here, you evaluate our players first and foremost, and then you get the coaching staff finalized.” You recognize those folks, and to be honest, we’re just wrapping things up and making the necessary adjustments. After doing that, we’ll start to focus more intently on the Draft and free agency, which is an exciting development.
Many of the things that I believe will unfold and have fluidity to them will be things about which we’ll have a better understanding as we’re able to sort of identify them. We may then be able to address some of those issues with the way the natural schedule plays out in relation to free agency and the Draft. As we seen last year, things can occasionally work out and come to you if you have patience. We’ll see if that turns out to be true as well.
McVay has the ability to transform the Rams from an intriguing playoff club to a legitimate Super Bowl contender far faster than anyone could have predicted with another successful offseason.
Sean McVay of the Rams is “humbled” to serve on the NFL Competition Committee.
Being a member of the NFL Competition Committee, which examines all competitive aspects of the game each year and suggests new regulations or rule adjustments based on its findings, is something else Sean McVay will be doing this summer.
McVay expressed his gratitude for being asked to join the committee, saying he was “flattered” and “humbled” to be included this year. The Rams coach went on to say that he is excited to help advance the game of football because he has always been curious in how he could do it.
