GOOD NEWS: The Super Eagles’ forward Iheanacho has returned from his service in the Africa Cup of Nations, according to Leicester City coach “He’s back.”
On Saturday, Kelechi Iheanacho, who returned to England after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, will play Middlesbrough in a championship match at King Power Stadium.
The highlight of Iheanacho’s effort as a bit player for the Super Eagles in the Ivory Coast tournament was his scoring of the game-winning penalty in the shootout victory over South Africa.
Playing the final eleven minutes against the Elephants, the 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup Golden Ball winner made his first appearance of the competition coming off the bench.
The adaptable forward was unable to participate in the training camp in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, due to fitness concerns prior to the competition.
After defeating Millwall and Birmingham City, the Foxes advanced to the Emirates FA Cup’s fifth round. They fared well in the absence of Iheanacho, winning six of their previous eight games in the second division.
Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca was cited by the team’s official website as responding, “He’s back,” when asked about Iheanacho’s availability.
Iheanacho is in the running to be included in the Middlesbrough gameday squad after participating in Friday’s last training session with his Leicester City teammates.
For the Championship table toppers, the Super Eagles star has not played since Boxing Day.
