Bobby Portis, a former basketball star for Arkansas, has agreed to a three-year contract to stay with the Milwaukee Bucks
Fan-favorite forward Bobby Portis has officially inked a three-year, $44 million contract to stay with the Milwaukee Bucks, declining his $13.4 million player option to secure a more team-friendly extension, agent Mark Bartelstein confirmed on June 29.
The new agreement features an average annual value of approximately $14.7 million, with an 8% raise each year and a player option built into the 2027‑28 season. For Portis, now 30, the deal offers both financial security and stability; for the Bucks, it provides cap flexibility in an offseason that demands it.

Drafted by the in 2015 out of the University of Arkansas, Portis has remained a consistent contributor across multiple teams—including the Wizards and Knicks—before anchoring Milwaukee’s bench. He played a key reserve role on the 2021 championship team and has averaged 13.6 points and 8.3 rebounds over 339 regular-season games with the Bucks.
Importantly for Milwaukee, Portis’s new contract is structured intelligently to complement their cap strategy. It keeps them well under the second apron, preserving space to pursue other key free agents, such as Gary Trent Jr., Kevin Porter Jr., Brook Lopez, Jericho Sims, and Ryan Rollins. The front office can now shift focus more confidently toward depth, while retaining one of their primary bench assets.
The deal also sends a positive signal to franchise cornerstone Giannis Antetokounmpo. With Portis locked in, the Bucks demonstrate a commitment to maintaining a competitive supporting cast—a key factor as Giannis “closely observes” team moves during this critical offseason.
