Just In: Steve Kerr Believes Healthy Steph Curry Could Have Led Warriors to a Title Run
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr stirred debate among NBA fans this week when he claimed that the team “could have gone the distance” if superstar Stephen Curry had remained healthy throughout the season. Kerr made the comments during an offseason media session, reflecting on the team’s tumultuous 2024–25 campaign, which ended without a playoff berth.
The Warriors finished the season with a disappointing 43-39 record, missing the postseason for just the second time in the last decade. Injuries played a major role in the team’s struggles, particularly the absences of Curry, who missed 22 games due to ankle and knee issues. Kerr didn’t mince words when addressing the impact of Curry’s health.

“When Steph is out there, we believe we can beat anyone,” Kerr said. “He’s still playing at an elite level. If we had him healthy all year, I think we could’ve gone the distance.”
Curry, 37, continued to defy age this season, averaging 26.4 points, 5.2 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game while shooting 40.8% from three-point range. But the Warriors struggled to find consistency without their floor general, going just 10-12 in games he missed. The offense, long reliant on Curry’s gravity and leadership, lacked rhythm during those stretches, and defensive lapses compounded the problem.
While some may view Kerr’s comments as optimistic or even revisionist, others see merit in the argument. The Western Conference was wide open this season, with no single dominant team emerging. The eventual champions, the Minnesota Timberwolves, had their own share of inconsistency throughout the year. A healthy and playoff-tested Warriors squad — led by Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson — could have posed a serious threat.
Still, not everyone is convinced. Critics point to the aging core and a bench that failed to deliver when needed. “Even with Steph, they lacked depth and athleticism,” one analyst noted. “They would’ve needed more than health to win another title.”
As the Warriors look toward the offseason, Kerr’s comments serve as both a reflection and a challenge. The franchise must decide how to maximize Curry’s remaining prime years, whether through retooling the roster or making bold moves in free agency. One thing is certain: as long as Curry is healthy, the Warriors believe anything is possible.
