The Philadelphia Eagles have secured a member of their defensive backfield for the upcoming 2024 season.
The Philadelphia Eagles have been highly active in free agency this year, solidifying their roster for the 2024 season by securing key players like Saquon Barkley, Bryce Huff, and Chauncey Gardner-Johnson. General Manager Howie Roseman explored external options while also opting to retain a defensive starter from the 2023 season.

According to Zach Berman of PHLY, the Eagles have extended safety Reed Blankenship’s contract for one more year, keeping him with the team through 2025. With Blankenship and Gardner-Johnson now locked in, the Eagles have their starting safeties set for the upcoming season.
Blankenship is recognized for his instincts in the secondary and his ability to excel in run defense. He’s known for his speed, which allows him to cover ground effectively and make plays in the passing game. In the previous season, the 25-year-old recorded impressive stats, including 113 total tackles, 17 pass deflections, and three interceptions. Notably, both Blankenship and Gardner-Johnson possess the versatility to play multiple roles in the secondary if required.
According to PFF, Blankenship earned a solid overall grade of 73.4, with a particularly strong coverage grade of 78.
Additionally, Blankenship’s extension holds extra significance due to Sydney Brown’s injury, as he won’t be available at the start of the season due to a torn ACL suffered in Week 18. Having Blankenship, who’s familiar with the team’s defensive scheme for two years, allows Brown to ease back into play once he’s fully recovered.
With a formidable roster, the Eagles are considered strong contenders for Super Bowl LIX, currently holding the seventh-best odds in the NFL at +1600. Fans can capitalize on these odds by visiting FanDuel Sportsbook, where they can claim sign-up bonuses and support the eagles.
