The ‘Tush Push’ will be allowed during the 2024 NFL season.
The “Tush Push” has become an NFL staple. At least for the 2024 season, according to a Thursday report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The play has become fairly controversial over the last two years, with some questioning whether the NFL would seek to outlaw it given the Philadelphia Eagles‘ success with it. However, NFL official Troy Vincent stated on Thursday that no rule change proposal to restrict the play will be presented this offseason, ensuring that the Eagles — and any other team — will be free to employ it this season.

The play is reminiscent of the early days of professional football, in which the offence lines up in a tight, jumbo configuration with running backs right behind the quarterback. At the snap, they press the quarterback into the line, as the offensive line advances. Jalen Hurts and the Eagles are undoubtedly the finest at it. While Eagles opponents may despise it, they are the only team that has successfully perfected it. No other team in the league performs as well as they do, and there are two major reasons for their success. The Eagles’ offensive line outperforms most teams, and Hurts is stronger than most quarterbacks.
It is difficult to reproduce those two things. It will be intriguing to see how the Eagles do without centre Jason Kelce, who retired this offseason. Overall, the NFL made the correct judgement. It is not an unstoppable play, except when executed by the Eagles, who are not immune. They should not be punished for outperforming everyone else.
