The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to part ways with one of their defensive ends from last season following the signing of Bryce Huff in free agency.
To begin free agency, the Philadelphia Eagles secured a significant boost to their defensive line by inking Bryce Huff to a lucrative three-year, $51.1 million deal. With this signing, it appears probable that either Haason Reddick or Josh Sweat will be traded.
Recent reports indicated that the Eagles have been fielding trade inquiries for Sweat, who is entering the final year of his contract. While it’s not feasible for Philadelphia to trade both defensive linemen, it’s clear that one of them will be departing before the regular season commences.
Sweat expressed his sentiments on social media, sharing a message on Instagram saying, “Farewell, everyone.” The 26-year-old defensive end is coming off a less impressive 2023 season, during which he recorded 43 total tackles, 23 hits on the quarterback, seven tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, and forced two fumbles.
The former fourth-round selection was unable to replicate his on-field performance from 2022, where he achieved a career-high 11 sacks and 15 tackles for loss.
Sweat carries a $9 million cap hit for 2024, which could strain the Eagles’ budget, especially considering their recent decision to part ways with Avonte Maddox, who had a comparable salary cap impact.
Should the Eagles decide to part with Sweat, they are likely to seek a couple of draft picks in return, given their other defensive needs. With the onset of the new league year approaching on Wednesday, it wouldn’t be surprising to witness increased trade speculation surrounding Sweat.
