Sad Departure! Talks From Rodgers coming to conclusion as Matt O’Riley’s long term contract comes to end, and He’s set to leave the Bhoys before…
Midfielder O’Riley, a Danish player, signed a new contract in September that will last until 2027 after joining for £1.5 million two years prior.
This season, the 23-year-old has tallied 10 goals and given as many assists.

“There was an offerbut Matt is a player we don’t want to lose and he won’t be going anywhere in January,” added Rodgers.
It speaks volumes about him and what the team can accomplish for a player. This season, he was awarded his first cap for his country, Spain’s Atletico Madrid, a major football league.
O’Riley, who transferred to Celtic from MK Dons in January 2022, is apparently the target of a trade for up to £20 million from Atletico, who are currently fourth in La Liga, 11 points behind surprise leaders Girona.
Atletico’s bid, according to Rodgers, is “nowhere near” what Celtic is worth, but it doesn’t matter because the team doesn’t have to sell.
Diego Simeone’s team faced Celtic twice in the Champions League this season; they thrashed them 6-0 in Spain but were held 2-2 in Glasgow, despite O’Riley’s outstanding performance.
“He had an opportunity in the summer but he was very happy to extend here and obviously Atletico Madrid is a huge club but he also knows he is in a great place here,” said Rodgers.
