GOOD NEWS: Terry Rozier says he expects to sacrifice a lot in order to support the Miami Heat in their victory.
Terry Rozier, a guard for the Miami Heat, stated that he is prepared to change his style of play in order to assist the team win this year.
The fact that Rozier has assimilated into the Heat’s culture after Miami acquired him in a trade with the Charlotte Hornets before this season’s trade deadline must excite the team’s supporters.
In three of his four seasons in Charlotte (including the beginning of the 2023–24 campaign), Rozier averaged more than 20 points per game; during his brief stay in Miami, he has not experienced the same level of scoring success.
In 11 games with the Heat, the former first-round selection is averaging just 13.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists while shooting 25.5 percent from three-point range and 37.3 percent from the field.
Even though Rozier has only recently joined the squad, it is clear that his role has changed from what it was in Charlotte.
These days, Bam Adebayo, Jimmy Butler, and Tyler Herro, a scoring guard, are all players whom Rozier plays against. Given that LaMelo Ball has missed time due to injury the last two seasons, Rozier was one of the team’s best offensive alternatives in Charlotte.
Rozier’s field goal attempts per game have decreased from 18.3 in Charlotte to just 12.9 in Miami since joining the Heat. The veteran guard’s declining usage and inefficiency have undoubtedly had a significant negative impact on his scoring totals.
Rozier, who made his comeback to action following a four-game hiatus in Miami’s victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday night, doesn’t seem to have been phased by the role change.
With a 19-point performance on Tuesday, Rozier had perhaps his greatest game while wearing a Heat uniform, going 7 for 14 from the field and 2 for 4 from beyond the arc. In the victory, he contributed four rebounds and four assists for the Heat.
The Heat signed Rozier in an attempt to improve their guard play this season and try to contend for an NBA championship. Miami has advanced to the Finals twice in the previous four seasons, but has failed to advance past the NBA’s biggest stage both times. With any luck, Rozier’s play and adaptability to any role Miami needs will help the Heat overcome their early season struggles.
