BREAKING NEWS: The two candidates that Newcastle United would take into consideration to replace Eddie Howe are disclosed.
Eddie Howe will be replaced at Newcastle United by either Jose Mourinho or Thomas Tuchel, according to former Sky Sports commentator Richard Keys.
Concerns have been expressed regarding the 46-year-old’s long-term future on Tyneside following another crushing Premier League loss to Arsenal. The Toon chiefs are still very much in favor of Howe, but more backlash would indicate a shift.
As things stand, Newcastle is in the FA Cup fifth round and still hoping to play in Europe. The Magpies have struggled with injuries in 2023–24, but their recent defensive performance has supporters worried.

Since Nick Pope’s injury on December 2, Newcastle has given up an incredible 31 goals in 12 games; only five top-flight teams have given up more. Although relegation-threatened Luton Town and Nottingham Forest have scored easily against the Magpies in recent weeks, Arsenal had a great time at the Emirates on Saturday.
Two managers who have won the Champions League, Mourinho and Tuchel, are expected to be free agents at the end of the current campaign. While Mourinho has decided to step down at Bayern Munich, he was fired by Roma last month.
Keys identified the two former Chelsea managers as possible targets for Toon in an interview with beIN Sports. He also said that Howe would not be the one to lead Newcastle to previously unheard-of levels of success.
“Ultimately, Eddie Howe will lose because of the way he was defeated,” Keys stated. Can he elevate Newcastle to a higher level?
“No, he’s not, is my response. With Mourinho out of the picture and Tuchel available, I believe a coach of that caliber will make his way to St. James’ Park.
